What it is about

In Dresden, a young love story brings together the present and two histories of flight. A Ukrainian refugee and a young woman encounter family memories reaching back to East Prussia and the end of the Second World War.

The novel asks what happens when a family’s story of suffering conceals another truth: survival can leave guilt behind. Love becomes the place where inherited silence, violence and the possibility of reconciliation meet.
